Chapter 5 - The Siege of Long IslandThree days later, in the darkest hour before dawn, the storm hit.

A sudden, deafening explosion rocked the eastern wing of the Rossi manor, shattering heavy glass windows and sending shockwaves through the marble foundation. The power grid was instantly severed, plunging the entire mansion into pitch-black darkness.

Spotted searchlights flared outside as dozens of armed mercenaries, hired by Victor Moretti in a desperate final bid to seize control of New York, breached the perimeter gates.

Inside the nursery, Hunter bolted upright as alarms blared through the backup generators.

Before she could grab Leo, the door burst open. Lorenzo slammed the door shut behind him, locking the heavy steel bolts. He was fully armed, wearing a tactical Kevlar vest, holding an assault rifle in his hands.

"They breached the main gate," Lorenzo said rapidly, his voice calm despite the chaotic gunfire echoing from the lower floors. "Moretti knows he’s losing his captains. This is his last stand."

He walked over to Hunter, grabbing a hidden key from his pocket and unlocking a hidden wall panel behind the heavy oak bookshelf. The panel slid open, revealing a reinforced, bulletproof safe room complete with independent oxygen supplies and secure communications.

"Get inside with Leo," Lorenzo ordered, guiding her toward the hidden room. "Once the door locks from the inside, nothing short of a military missile can open it."

"No!" Hunter cried out, clutching Leo firmly to her chest. "Come inside with us! You can't fight them all alone!"

Lorenzo took her face in his hands, kissing her passionately on the lips—a kiss that tasted of gunpowder, rain, and fierce promise.

"I have fifty of my best men downstairs," Lorenzo said, smiling dark and dangerously. "I am not going to hide in a safe room while insects invade my home. I am going to end Victor Moretti tonight, so our son never has to fear him again."

He gently pushed her into the safe room, looking into her eyes one last time.

"Keep him safe, Hunter," Lorenzo whispered. "I'll be back for you."

The heavy steel door slid shut, locking with a deep mechanical click, sealing Hunter and Leo inside the silent, secure room.

For the next two hours, Hunter sat in the dark, holding Leo tightly as she listened to the muffled thuds of gunfire and explosions reverberating through the heavy concrete walls. She prayed like she had never prayed before, her heart bleeding for the man who had given her a reason to live.

Downstairs, the estate was a warzone.

Lorenzo moved through his home like an unstoppable force of nature. Flanked by Marco and his loyal enforcers, they methodically eliminated Moretti's mercenaries room by room. Lorenzo’s tactical brilliance and cold, lethal precision turned his own mansion into a death trap for the invaders.

Finally, in the grand foyer, Lorenzo caught up with Victor Moretti.

Victor was wounded, bleeding from his shoulder, his mercenaries lying dead around him. He backed up against the grand double doors, pulling a secondary gun with a trembling hand.

"Lorenzo... wait!" Victor choked out, terror filling his eyes as Lorenzo walked toward him through the smoke, holding his weapon low. "We can make a deal! The shipping ports... you can have them all! Just let me walk!"

Lorenzo stopped five feet away. He looked at the man who had ordered the bomb that killed Sophia, the man who had tried to murder his newborn son, and the man who had tried to destroy Hunter.

"You took my wife, Victor," Lorenzo said softly, his voice echoing in the ruined foyer. "You tried to starve my son. And you threatened the woman I love."

"Lorenzo, please—"

"No deals," Lorenzo said cold.

A single shot echoed through the foyer. Victor Moretti collapsed to the marble floor, motionless.

The war was over.
