Chapter 4 - The Fall of the House of VanceBefore Julian could open his mouth to respond, the heavy digital screens across the grand ballroom—which were supposed to project the Vance Group’s triumphant merger presentation—suddenly flashed bright red.

Emergency alert chimes chimed through the ballroom’s audio speakers.
A prominent financial anchor’s voice broadcasted live across the room:
"Breaking News: The Securities and Exchange Commission has just halted all trading for the Vance Group following allegations of massive tax fraud, offshore money laundering, and illegal asset stripping. Simultaneously, the Department of Justice has issued an arrest warrant for Chairman Julian Vance and Board Director Victoria Vance..."
The ballroom erupted into chaos.
Shareholders and board members sitting at the VIP tables scrambled to their feet, shouting in panic as their phone notifications exploded with red alerts.
“Our stock is down ninety percent!” a major investor screamed, shoving his chair back. “The Blackwood Group just liquidated all their short options! The company is bankrupt!”
“Julian, you bastard!” another shareholder roared, charging toward the stage. “You ruined us!”
Julian backed away, his eyes wild with terror. He looked at his phone—his personal banking apps were flashing red errors: ACCOUNT FROZEN. ACCOUNT FROZEN. ACCOUNT FROZEN.
His multi-million dollar penthouse, his yacht in Miami, his private jet, his offshore accounts—everything he had spent his life stepping on people to build had been completely, utterly annihilated in less than ten minutes.
“No... no, no, no!” Victoria shrieked, clutching her diamond necklace as she fell to her knees beside Genevieve. “My diamonds! My house! Julian, do something! You’re the Chairman!”
“Shut up, Mother!” Julian screamed in complete emotional collapse, pulling at his hair.
He turned back to Eleanor, dropping to his knees on the floor, crawling across the marble toward her heels like a beaten dog.
“Ellie! Please!” Julian sobbed, reaching out to grasp the hem of her dark dress. “Have mercy! Think of Maya! She needs a father! I’ll change! I’ll fire Genevieve! I’ll kick my mother out of the house! Just give me one more chance!”
Eleanor looked down at him. She didn't pull her gown away. She simply looked at his trembling, pathetic form with the cold indifference one reserves for garbage waiting for collection.
“When my daughter cried on your floor today, Julian,” Eleanor whispered, leaning down so only he could hear her voice, “you told me she was useless. You said she mirrored her pathetic mother. You said we were capable of nothing but causing destruction.”
Eleanor smiled—a soft, breathtaking, terrible smile.
“You were right about one thing, Julian,” she whispered. “I am capable of destruction. And you just watched me destroy everything you ever cared about.”
The glass double doors at the back of the ballroom slammed open once more.
Six federal agents in dark suits, accompanied by uniformed NYPD officers, marched down the carpeted aisle.
The lead agent stopped beside Julian, pulling a set of cold steel handcuffs from his belt.
“Julian Vance? Victoria Vance?” the agent announced coldly. “You are under arrest for federal wire fraud, grand larceny, and conspiracy to commit tax evasion. You have the right to remain silent.”
CLICK. CLICK.
The cold steel clamped around Julian’s wrists.
Victoria shrieked as female officers handcuffed her, her heavy diamond necklace slipping from her fingers and clattering worthless against the floor. Genevieve was dragged away by hotel security, sobbing hysterically as her name was broadcast across international social media networks as a disgraced pariah.
Julian was lifted to his feet by two federal agents. As he was dragged toward the exit, his eyes locked onto Eleanor one last time.
She wasn't looking at him anymore.
She had turned her back on him completely. She was standing beside her father, gently adjusting Maya’s coat as the little girl giggled softly, feeling safe, loved, and protected in the arms of the family that truly mattered.

“Ellie!” Julian screamed as he was dragged through the doors of the Grand Aster, his voice echoing pathetically down the hallway. “Ellie, please! Forgive me! ELLIE!”
The heavy doors clicked shut behind him, cutting off his desperate cries forever.
