Chapter 5 - Reclaiming the CrownThree months later.

The icy winter winds of December swept across the glass towers of Manhattan, but inside the penthouse office on the top floor of the Blackwood Tower, the air was warm and smelled of fresh jasmine tea and cedarwood.
Eleanor stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, wearing a tailored cream-colored trousersuit, looking out over the snow-covered expanse of Central Park.
In her hand, she held a warm ceramic mug. Beside her desk, a small drawing table was covered in colorful crayon sketches—drawings of sunshine, green grass, a large mountain house, and a drawing of three people holding hands: a little girl, a grandfather, and a queen wearing a crown.
A soft knock came at her office door.
Harrison stepped inside, carrying a sleek leather folder.
“My Lady,” Harrison said respectfully, bowing his head. “The final liquidation of the Vance Group assets has been completed. The remaining real estate portfolio was purchased by our subsidiary for pennies on the dollar. The proceeds have been transferred directly into a irrevocable trust fund for Miss Maya.”
Eleanor took a sip of her tea, her tone calm and relaxed. “And Julian?”
“His legal team attempted to plea-bargain,” Harrison reported with a faint, ruthless smirk. “However, given the overwhelming evidence of financial fraud and child neglect, the judge denied bail. Julian was sentenced yesterday to twenty-two years at a maximum-security facility in upstate New York. Victoria received eight years for her role in the offshore concealment.”
“And Genevieve?”
“Working as an entry-level dishwasher in a diner in New Jersey,” Harrison replied smoothly. “Her family abandoned her the moment her name was blacklisted by the banking network. She lives in a basement apartment.”
Eleanor turned around slowly, looking at the drawing on Maya’s table.
There was no joy in her heart over their destruction—only a deep, peaceful sense of absolute justice. The weeds had been pulled from her garden. The toxic shadow that had threatened her daughter’s life had been utterly eradicated.
The private elevator door at the end of the office chimed softly.
Lord Arthur Blackwood walked into the room, holding five-year-old Maya by her small hand.
Maya was radiant. The swelling on her cheek was completely gone, leaving her smooth, rosy skin flawless. She wore a bright yellow winter coat, her brown curls bouncing with every step, her small mouth filled with a complete set of healthy, white teeth—thanks to the finest pediatric dental specialists in the country.
“Mommy!” Maya squealed, letting go of her grandfather’s hand and running across the thick carpet.
Eleanor dropped to one knee, catching her daughter in her arms, swinging her up into a warm, fierce hug.
“Look what Grandpa bought me!” Maya cheered, holding up a small, handmade wooden carousel that played a soft, chiming melody when wound.
Lord Arthur walked over, his dark eyes filled with a soft, paternal warmth that very few people in the business world had ever been privileged to see.
“She chose it herself at the artisan shop downtown,” Lord Arthur smiled, reaching out to stroke Eleanor’s hair gently. “You look good in your rightful chair, my daughter.”
Eleanor stood up, holding Maya on her hip, looking at her father.
“I was foolish, Father,” Eleanor confessed softly. “I thought by lowering myself, by hiding who I was, I could buy a quiet, happy life for my child. I thought love meant endurance.”
“Love is not submission, Eleanor,” Lord Arthur said firmly, his voice rich with wisdom. “Love is a shield. Love is a fortress. You hid your power because your heart was too kind. But when your child needed a mother, you remembered who you were.”

He reached into his pocket and placed a pristine gold seal ring on her desk—the official signet ring of the CEO of the Blackwood Global Enterprise.
“The board has unanimously voted,” Arthur said with pride. “I am stepping down as Chairman. You are taking my place, Eleanor. It is time for the world to see the true queen of the Blackwood Dynasty.”
