Her office was bright, warm, and filled with fresh yellow roses—a stark contrast to the dark, suffocating environment of her former life.
A gentle knock sounded at her door, and Sarah stepped in, holding two cups of fresh coffee and a thick folder of client cases.
"Morning, boss," Sarah smiled, setting a mug on Claire's desk. "The non-profit shelter just called. Three more women have signed up for our financial literacy workshop this weekend."
"That’s wonderful news," Claire smiled, standing up and walking to the large window overlooking the bustling city park below.
Her phone buzzed on the desk. It was a notification from her bank confirming the final settlement of her divorce. She was completely, totally free. The house that Helen had tried to hold over her head had been sold, with the proceeds distributed to Sarah and various charities supporting domestic violence survivors.
