Chapter 5 - The War for the Raldi EmpireThe grand hall of the Raldi Manor in Oak Brook was filled with twenty-two capos, syndicate elders, and regional bosses.

At the head of the long mahogany dining table sat Victor Raldi, dressed in a sharp navy suit, wearing a triumphant smile as he gestured to a stack of forged documents spread before the elders.

“As you can see, gentlemen,” Victor announced, his voice booming with fake sorrow across the room. “My nephew Cassian has been betrayed. His wife, Adeline, has been carrying on a secret affair for months. Furthermore, medical records prove Cassian is biologically incapable of maintaining the bloodline. For the stability of the Raldi empire, I am calling for an immediate vote of no confidence to remove Cassian from leadership.”

A heavy murmur broke out among the elders.

“Is this true, Victor?” an old capo named Don Bernardo asked, leaning forward. “Cassian has ruled with an iron fist for five years. We cannot strip his crown on mere paperwork!”

“The paperwork is absolute, Bernardo!” Victor insisted, slapping his hand on the table. “Cassian is sterile! He has no heir! And his wife is a traitor!”

BANG!

The grand double doors of the hall were thrown open with such violent force that they shattered the marble molding on the walls.

Twenty heavily armed Raldi enforcers—loyal exclusively to the reigning Don—flooded into the room, taking positions behind every elder.

Through the cloud of dust, Cassian walked into the room. Beside him, dressed in an exquisite black velvet gown that subtly accented her figure, walked Adeline. Her head was held high, her hand tucked securely into the crook of Cassian’s arm.

Behind them walked two operatives carrying a large digital monitor and a speaker system.

The entire room went dead silent. Victor’s face turned from triumphant red to a sickly, ghostly white.

“Cassian...” Victor stammered, his eyes darting frantically toward the doors. “You... you were supposed to be—”

“Dead?” Cassian finished the sentence smoothly as he walked toward the head of the table. “I’m afraid your hit squad failed, Uncle. Just like your twelve-year medical fraud failed.”

“What is the meaning of this?!” Don Bernardo shouted, standing up.

Cassian reached the head of the table. With a casual flick of his wrist, he grabbed Victor by his collar and threw him out of the head chair. Victor tumbled onto the marble floor, gasping as Cassian sat down in the seat of power.

Adeline stood beside her husband, her hand resting on the back of his chair.

“Marco, fire up the screen,” Cassian commanded.

The digital monitor burst to life, displaying two large documents side-by-side: the master hard drive files extracted from Dr. Vance’s safe, detailing twelve years of altered fertility reports, and the live video confession of Dr. Vance himself admitting to manufacturing the amnesiac toxin for Lake Forest.

A collective gasp echoed through the room.

“Victor Raldi paid Dr. Vance two hundred thousand dollars a year to falsify my medical records,” Cassian announced, his voice ringing across the silent hall like a death sentence. “He drugged my wife and me at Lake Forest to create a fake narrative of infidelity, all to usurp the throne.”

Victor scrambled to his feet, pulling a hidden snub-nosed revolver from his jacket. “He’s lying! It’s a setup—!”

Before Victor could raise the weapon, Adeline stepped forward.

With blinding speed, she pulled a small, high-powered medical stun-pen from her clutch—a device she carried for self-defense during night shifts at the hospital—and slammed it directly into the side of Victor’s neck.

Fifty thousand volts of electric current surged through Victor’s body. He let out a strangled gurgle, his eyes rolling back as his gun clattered across the floor, his body collapsing into a heap on the marble.

The elders stared at Adeline in absolute shock.

Adeline smoothed her black velvet dress, her expression cool and serene. “My husband doesn't need to lie. And as for the lie that Cassian has no heir...”

She looked at Don Bernardo, placing her hand gently over her stomach.

“I am six weeks pregnant with the next Don of the Raldi family,” Adeline declared proudly. “Verified by DNA testing, witnessed by Dr. Mercer, and backed by the true bloodline.”

Don Bernardo looked at the screen, then at the unconscious traitor on the floor, and finally at Cassian and Adeline.

Slowly, the old capo stood up. He placed his right hand over his heart and bowed his head.

“Hail Don Cassian Raldi,” Bernardo declared loudly. “And hail the Queen of the Raldi family.”

One by one, all twenty-two members of the syndicate stood up, bowing their heads in absolute surrender and allegiance to Cassian and Adeline.

Cassian looked up at his wife, a proud, breathtaking smile breaking across his sharp features. He took her hand, kissing her knuckles in front of the entire empire.
