Chapter 6 - The Real VowsAt 11:30 PM, the storm returned to Boston, pouring heavy rain over the cobblestone streets around the historic Regency Hotel.

Ethan and Clara slipped through the hotel’s rear delivery entrance using Clara’s master event access key. They moved quickly and silently through the dim, damp concrete tunnels beneath the hotel, guided only by the soft beam of Ethan’s tactical flashlight.
Ethan carried a suppressed weapon hidden beneath his dark coat, his body moving with the lethal precision of a man trained for extreme threat management. Clara walked directly behind him, her pulse racing.
They reached a heavy iron door marked BOILER ROOM - 1922.
Ethan motioned for Clara to stay back behind a concrete pillar. He pulled his weapon, took a deep breath, and kicked the heavy iron door open with a thunderous CRACK.
"Security! Nobody move!" Ethan shouted, his voice echoing violently through the cavernous brick vault.
Inside, Julian Vance spun around, pulling his gun from his holster.
Olivia Sterling shrieked from her chair in the center of the room, her wrists bound with heavy plastic zip-ties.
"Vale!" Vance screamed, aiming his weapon directly at Ethan’s chest. "You were supposed to go to the Navy Yard!"
"You always were bad at logistics, Julian," Ethan said coldly, keeping his gun trained steadily on Vance’s forehead. "Drop the weapon."
"I have nothing to lose, Ethan!" Vance snarled, his eyes wild with desperate rage. "The stock buyback ruined me! I’m facing twenty years for corporate fraud! If I’m going down, I’m taking your empire with me!"
Vance shifted his gun toward Olivia. "Say goodbye to your heiress!"
BANG!
A deafening shot shattered the air.
Vance gasped, dropping his weapon as a rubber tactical dart hit his shoulder, paralyzing his nerve cluster. He collapsed to the concrete floor, writhing in pain.
Behind Ethan, Marcus and four Vale Meridian private security officers poured into the room, instantly securing Vance in heavy steel handcuffs.
Clara rushed past the guards, pulling an emergency knife from her pocket and cutting the zip-ties binding Olivia’s wrists.
Olivia collapsed forward, weeping frantically. "Clara... Oh God, Clara! I'm so sorry! Julian told me he loved me... he said we could take the money and run to Brazil... he trapped me here!"
Clara wrapped a warm blanket around the trembling heiress's shoulders. "It's over, Olivia. You're safe now."
Ethan stepped up beside Clara, looking down at the disgraced Julian Vance as the police officers dragged him away in chains.
"Get them out of here," Ethan ordered Marcus.
Ten minutes later, the boiler room was cleared. Police sirens wailed in the streets above as federal agents processed the crime scene.
Ethan and Clara stood alone in the quiet, historic brick vault beneath the hotel.
Clara took a long, deep breath, smoothing down her coat. "Well... Vance is arrested. Olivia is safe. The shareholder vote is tomorrow, and Vale Meridian owns sixty-eight percent of Sterling Crown. The deal is sealed."
She looked up at Ethan, a sad, sweet smile on her face. "You won, Ethan. Your empire is safe."
Ethan didn't smile. He walked over to her, stopping inches away. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small, dark velvet box.
Clara’s breath hitched. "Ethan... what is that?"
Ethan opened the box.
Inside lay a breathtaking ring—not the cold, twelve-carat corporate diamond meant for Olivia, but a flawless, brilliant-cut oval sapphire surrounded by tiny pave diamonds, glowing like a deep blue ocean under the vaulted lights.
"This belonged to my grandmother," Ethan said, his voice soft, trembling with a raw vulnerability Clara had never heard before. "She gave it to my father with one instruction: give it to the woman who stays when the world falls apart."
Ethan dropped to one knee on the damp concrete floor of the hotel basement.
Clara buried her hands over her mouth, tears overflowing her eyes and streaming down her cheeks.
"Clara Monroe," Ethan said, looking up at her with his whole heart shining in his gray eyes. "Seven days ago, you wore a veil for five minutes to save my life. You faced my enemies, destroyed my rivals, and taught me what it truly means to love someone. I don't want a fake bride. I don't want a strategic merger. I want you. Forever."
He held the ring up toward her. "Will you marry me, Clara? For real this time?"
Clara fell to her knees in front of him, throwing her arms around his neck and pulling him into a passionate, joyous kiss that echoed through the ancient brick vault.
"Yes!" Clara sobbed happily against his lips. "Yes, Ethan! A thousand times yes!"
Ethan laughed—a bright, triumphant sound—as he slipped the sapphire ring onto her finger. It fit with absolute, divine perfection.
Epilogue: The Real WeddingOne year later.
The sun shone brightly over a private estate on the cliffs of Newport, Rhode Island.
There were no news cameras. There were no financial reporters, no corporate board directors, and no twelve-carat fake diamonds.
Under an archway of simple, fragrant wild white roses, seventy close friends and family members sat in white wooden chairs. Tess Parker stood near the front, wearing a dusty rose bridesmaid dress, smiling through tears of pure joy.
Clara Monroe walked down the aisle.
She wore a simple, breathtaking ivory silk gown that she had chosen herself. Her dark hair was styled in an elegant updraft, adorned only with a few white blossoms. No veil hid her face.
At the end of the aisle stood Ethan Vale.
He wore a tailored dark navy suit, his eyes fixed entirely on Clara as she walked toward him. He looked like a man who had conquered the world and found his true home.
When Clara reached the altar, Ethan took both her hands into his, his grip warm, steady, and eternal.
The priest smiled warmly at the couple. "Ethan, do you take Clara to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
Ethan looked straight into Clara’s dark, beautiful eyes.
"I take her," Ethan said softly, his voice full of infinite love. "Forever."
"And Clara, do you take Ethan to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
Clara smiled, her hand resting over the sapphire ring on her finger.
"I do," Clara said clearly.

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest declared. "You may kiss your bride."
Ethan leaned down, pulling Clara into his arms, and kissed her deeply beneath the blue sky and the gentle sound of the ocean waves—a kiss that began their true, unbroken forever.
