Chapter 2 - The Fall of the Hart DynastyThe dismantling of the Hart family empire did not take weeks. It took minutes.

Within ninety seconds of the video playing, three federal marshals—who had been quietly waiting outside at Nathan’s pre-emptive request—walked through the front doors of the ballroom. They didn't go after Evelyn first. They walked straight past the stunned guests and placed stainless-steel handcuffs around Martin Shaw’s wrists.
“Martin Shaw, you are under arrest for wire fraud, corporate forgery, and securities manipulation,” the lead marshal announced, his voice carrying clearly across the room.
Evelyn shrieked, flying into a hysterical rage. She lunged toward Nathan, her fingernails clawing at the air.
“You set me up!” she screamed, tears of fury streaming down her face, ruining her meticulously applied makeup. “You never loved me! You were just waiting for an excuse to humiliate me in front of the entire city!”
Nathan caught her wrist with effortless control, stopping her inches from his chest. His grip wasn't violent, but it was absolute.
“I loved the woman I thought you were, Evelyn,” Nathan said, his voice cold, steady, and utterly devastating. “The woman who volunteered at the shelter. The woman who claimed to value honesty. But that woman was a costume you wore to secure a merger with Cole Meridian.”
He let go of her wrist as though touching something unclean.
“Daniel, escort Miss Hart off the property. Make sure her personal belongings are packed in a cardboard box and left outside the security gates.”
“No! Nathan, please!” Evelyn sobbed, collapsing onto the marble floor, clawing at the hem of her expensive gown as security guards gently but firmly lifted her by her arms. “Don't do this! We can fix this! We can get married quietly—!”
The heavy oak doors closed behind her, cutting off her screams.
The silence that returned to the ballroom was heavy, suffocating, and absolute.
Nathan turned back to his guests, many of whom were quietly heading toward the exits, eager to distance themselves from the disgraced family.
“The party is concluded,” Nathan announced calmly. “Thank you for coming.”
As the crowd dispersed in a hurried whisper of silk dresses and tailored suits, Claire Bennett stood alone near the center of the room, clutching her small service apron, feeling entirely out of place among the ruins of a billionaire’s wedding.
“Claire,” Nathan’s voice called out gently.
She turned. Nathan was walking toward her, his expression entirely free of the cold fury he had directed at Evelyn and Martin.

“Yes, Mr. Cole?” she whispered.
“Sit down,” he said, gesturing to one of the velvet chairs near the edge of the dance floor. “You’ve had a very long, very painful night. And there is something I need to tell you.”
