Chapter 6 - A New Dawn in Villa Moretti

Six months later.
The dark winter fog that usually blanketed Milan had given way to a brilliant, warm spring morning. The gardens of Villa Moretti were in full bloom, filled with the sweet fragrance of white roses, lavender, and blooming peach trees.
The gloomy, intimidating atmosphere that had once defined the villa was gone. Light poured through open French doors, soft music played through the halls, and the sound of children's laughter echoed across the manicured lawns.
In the center of the garden, four-year-old Emma was running around a marble fountain, wearing a beautiful yellow party dress, chasing her new white puppy while holding her blue wool rabbit—now fully repaired, clean, and carrying no secret micro-chips.
I stood on the stone terrace, holding a glass of fresh orange juice, wearing a delicate cream-colored lace gown.
A pair of strong arms wrapped gently around my waist from behind. Alessandro pulled me back against his broad chest, resting his chin softly against my shoulder.
"You look breathtaking, my love," Alessandro whispered, his warm breath tickling my skin.
I smiled, turning slightly in his arms to loop my hands around his neck. "And you look far too handsome for a man who claims to be terrifying."
Alessandro chuckled—a rich, deep sound that had become a daily joy in my life. He looked down at me with an intensity of devotion that still made my heart flutter every single time.
Over the past six months, Villa Moretti had been transformed. The criminal syndicates were restructured into legitimate shipping and logistics enterprises under Alessandro’s visionary leadership. The shadowy violence that had plagued Milan for decades had been replaced by stability and prosperity.
And Julian’s name had been officially cleared by the Italian Supreme Court, his legacy honored as a heroic whistleblower who had brought down the country's most dangerous shadow cartel.
"Is everything ready?" I asked softly.
"The guests have arrived," Alessandro replied, pointing toward the grand lawn where two hundred people—not crime bosses, but legitimate diplomats, family friends, and staff—were gathered around a beautiful flower-covered altar.
Matteo stood near the front, wearing a sleek grey suit, holding Emma’s hand as she proudly carried a small velvet ring pillow.
Alessandro reached into his jacket pocket, pulling out a small wooden box. It wasn't the old lullaby box. It was a handcrafted music box he had carved himself, painted in soft pastel blues and golds.
He opened the lid. A gentle, newly composed melody played—a song of warmth, safety, and love.
Inside lay a magnificent ring, set with a flawless canary-yellow diamond surrounded by small sapphires, sparkling like sunlight on ocean waves.
"Clara," Alessandro said, taking my right hand into his, his voice filled with sincere emotion. "When you first walked into this house, I was a man living in darkness, consumed by revenge and isolation. You and Emma brought light, warmth, and love back into my heart. You showed me that strength isn't built on fear, but on protection and devotion."
He got down on one knee on the marble terrace, looking up at me with tears glistening in his sharp grey eyes.
"Will you make me the happiest man in Italy? Will you marry me, Clara, and reign as the Queen of my heart and my home?"
I looked down at the man who had shielded me from bullets, who had honored my late husband’s memory, and who loved my daughter as if she were his own flesh and blood.
"Yes, Alessandro," I wept happily, dropping to my knees beside him, throwing my arms around his neck. "Yes! A thousand times yes!"
He pulled me into a deep, passionate kiss as the crowd in the garden below erupted into thunderous applause and cheers. Emma came running up the terrace stairs, giggling madly, throwing her arms around both of our legs.
Alessandro picked us both up in his powerful arms, lifting us into the warm afternoon sunshine.

The days of cleaning floors in fear were gone forever. The tears, the humiliation, and the dark secrets of the past were buried beneath the blooming roses.
Standing in the arms of the man who loved us beyond measure, I knew that our new life had finally begun—a life of peace, honor, and an everlasting love that no shadow could ever break.
