Chapter 4 - The Strike at the GatesThe rain outside had intensified, turning the manicured gardens of the Ferraro estate into a dark, muddy labyrinth.

Inside the master guest room, Maya opened her eyes. The fever had broken, leaving her weak and disoriented, but her mind was clear. She sat up in the plush bed, staring at the grand fireplace, the silk drapes, and the elegant furniture surrounding her.

For a moment, she thought she was dreaming.

Then the door opened, and Luca walked in carrying Nora.

"Mama!" Nora squeaked, squirming out of Luca's arms the moment she saw her mother sitting up.

Maya caught her daughter, pulling her into a desperate, emotional embrace. "Nora... oh, thank God... baby, are you okay? Did you eat?"

"Mr. Luca gave me milk and sweet bread!" Nora chirped, pointing a chubby finger at the mafia boss standing by the foot of the bed. "And he fired the mean man!"

Maya looked up at Luca, her eyes swimming with deep gratitude mixed with overwhelming confusion. "Mr. Ferraro... I don't understand. Why are you doing this for us? The medical care, this room... I'm just a maid."

"You are not a maid, Maya Moretti," Luca said calmly.

Maya went rigid. The color drained from her face, and her arms tightened around Nora instinctively. "You... you know."

"I know about Julian," Luca said, stepping closer. "I know about the forty-million-dollar trust account. And I know about Enzo."

Maya buried her face in her hands, her shoulders shaking with quiet despair. "I didn't mean to bring trouble to your house, Mr. Ferraro! I swear! I just wanted a place where Nora could be safe... where nobody would look for us..."

"Listen to me carefully, Maya," Luca said, kneeling beside the bed so his eyes were level with hers. His voice was firm, steady, and utterly unshakable. "You do not have to run anymore."

"You don't know Enzo," Maya wept. "He won't stop! He has money, he has men—"

"He is an amateur," Luca interrupted coldly. "And he just made the last mistake of his life."

Before Maya could respond, a low, rhythmic chime echoed through the estate’s intercom system. The lights in the bedroom dimmed slightly as the mansion’s emergency automated defense systems activated. Heavy steel shutters slid down over the outer windows with a loud thrum-thrum-thrum, sealing the guest suite like an iron vault.

Maya gasped, pulling Nora beneath her blanket. "What is that?!"

"Enzo’s men have arrived," Luca said, standing up smoothly. He pulled a custom black semi-automatic pistol from his shoulder holster, checking the magazine with a quick, practiced motion before snapping it back into place.

He looked down at Maya and Nora.

"Stay in this room," Luca commanded. "The doors are three-inch reinforced steel. Nothing in this world can break through them."

"Mr. Ferraro, please!" Maya cried out, reaching for his sleeve. "Don't risk your life for us!"

Luca looked down at her hand on his sleeve, then offered her a slow, dangerous smile that sent a shiver down her spine—not of fear, but of awe.

"They came into my home to hurt a child who washed my shirt," Luca said quietly. "They are not going to leave this property alive."

Downstairs, in the grand marble foyer, eight men dressed in dark tactical gear had breached the side security gate after bribing Harland for the entry codes. They moved quietly through the dark hallway, weapons raised, led by Enzo Moretti’s chief enforcer—a ruthless killer named Gino.

"Find the girl and the mother," Gino whispered to his men, gesturing toward the central staircase. "Kill anyone else who gets in the way. Enzo wants this done before—"

The heavy chandelier above the foyer suddenly flashed bright, blinding white.

Standing at the top of the grand marble staircase was Luca Ferraro.

He was alone. He wasn't wearing body armor. He stood in his pristine white shirt and dark trousers, looking down at the intruders as if they were insects that had crawled onto his carpet.

"Gino," Luca’s voice echoed off the high marble walls, cold and terrifying. "You picked the wrong house."

Before Gino could raise his submachine gun, Marco and four Ferraro marksmen stepped out from behind the stone pillars on the second-floor balcony.

The silent estate exploded into a roar of gunfire.

The fight was over in less than ninety seconds. Luca moved down the stairs with lethal precision, his weapon firing with terrifying accuracy. The intruders, caught in a deadly crossfire in an open foyer built like a killing zone, never had a chance.

Gino, wounded in the shoulder, backed away toward the front doors, coughing blood, his weapon dropped on the marble floor.

Luca walked up to him, stepping over the fallen men, his shoes leaving dark prints in the blood on the floor. He brought the heel of his boot down hard onto Gino’s chest, pinning the enforcer to the cold stone floor.

"Tell Enzo," Luca whispered, leaning down, his dark eyes burning like embers, "that if he wants Maya and Nora, he can come get them himself. But he better bring an army."
