Chapter 5 - The Queen’s RansomThree weeks later.

The war was over before it could truly begin. With the Vance family stripped of their power and assets, Lorenzo’s control over the Manhattan underworld and maritime shipping was absolute.

The story of the "Auditor Queen"—the woman who had brought down a syndicate boss with a single flash drive—had become a legend among the city's elite.

In the penthouse overlooking Central Park, the atmosphere had shifted from tension to absolute luxury.

Valerie sat at a massive mahogany desk in the private library, reviewing the newly restructured ledgers of Costa International. She wore a stunning emerald silk robe, her soft brown curls pinned loosely back, her face glowing with health and contentment.

She was no longer hiding. She had embraced the fullness of her body, her mind, and her place beside Lorenzo.

A pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind, heavy and warm. Lorenzo buried his face in the crook of her neck, pressing a soft kiss against her sweet-scented skin.

"You're working too hard, mia regina," he murmured, his hands gently resting over her stomach, pulling her back against his broad chest.

Valerie leaned back into his embrace, a soft sigh escaping her lips. "I’m almost finished setting up the new oversight protocols for the shipping docks. No one will ever be able to skim from your accounts again, Lorenzo."

Lorenzo chuckled, his lips tracing a path up her throat to her jawline. "I don't care about the accounts, Valerie. I care about you."

He turned her chair around gently so she was facing him. He looked down at her with a depth of love and devotion that still made her breath catch.

"I have a proposition for you," Lorenzo said, pulling a small velvet box from his pocket.

Valerie’s heart skipped a beat. "Lorenzo..."

He didn't drop to one knee like a conventional man; he stood before her like a king offering his crown, opening the box to reveal a magnificent ring featuring a massive, flawless emerald surrounded by diamonds.

"I don't want you to be my auditor anymore, Valerie," Lorenzo said, his voice deep and unsteady with rare emotion. "I want you to be my partner. My wife. The ruler of everything I built."

Valerie looked at the stunning emerald ring, then up into his dark, fierce eyes.

"You know I won't just sit in a palace and look pretty, Lorenzo," she said, a playful smile touching her red lips. "I will manage your ledgers. I will question your decisions when you're being too ruthless. And I will never hide who I am again."

Lorenzo smiled—a genuine, breathtaking smile that transformed his harsh features into pure light.

"That is precisely why I need you, Valerie," he whispered, sliding the heavy ring onto her finger. "A king is nothing without a queen who knows how to keep his world from collapsing."

He bent his head and kissed her—a deep, passionate kiss that sealed their fate together, blending his strength with her brilliance in a union that no one in the city would ever dare to challenge.
