Chapter 3 - The Sanctuary of IronBy three o'clock in the morning, Jisoo had packed her life—her two passports, her cash, her suppressed pistol, and a small silver locket containing a photo of her late team—into a single black tactical duffel bag.

She stepped out of her Queens apartment building and climbed into the back of Raffaele’s Maybach.

The Maybach traveled north, crossing the Hudson River into the secluded, densely forested hills of Westchester County. Ten minutes past the county line, the vehicle turned off the main road onto a private, unlit driveway framed by high iron gates topped with security wiring and motion sensors.

The iron gates slid open silently, revealing a massive, gray stone estate built like a modern medieval fortress.

"Welcome to the Sanctuary," Raffaele said as Enzo parked the vehicle in the underground garage beneath the main house.

The underground garage looked less like a residential parking space and more like a high-tech armory. Rows of bulletproof SUVs, tactical gear lockers, private communication terminals, and weapon racks lined the concrete walls. Eight heavily armed men in dark suits stood at attention as Raffaele stepped out of the Maybach and opened the rear door for Jisoo.

Jisoo stepped out, her sharp eyes immediately scanning every corner, every camera angle, and every tactical vantage point.

"Impressive perimeter control," Jisoo commented neutrally, slinging her duffel bag over her shoulder. "Though your western fence line has a blind spot between the two oak trees."

Enzo blinked, looking offended. "We spent two hundred grand on those infrared cameras!"

"The angle is tilted three degrees too high," Jisoo stated without looking at him. "A trained operative could breach the western perimeter using the tree canopy in under forty seconds."

Raffaele let out a low laugh, glancing at Enzo’s shocked expression. "Adjust the camera angle, Enzo. Immediately."

"Yes, Boss," Enzo muttered, pulling out his radio.

Raffaele led Jisoo through a private elevator to the top floor of the main residence. The suite he assigned her was expansive, featuring floor-to-ceiling reinforced glass windows overlooking the surrounding forest, a fireplace, a king-sized bed, and a private dressing room stocked with brand-new tactical apparel and elegant evening wear in her exact size.

"Your private quarters," Raffaele said, standing at the threshold of the room. "The doors use biometric locks. Only your prints and mine can open them."

Jisoo walked over to the reinforced glass window, looking out over the moonlit forest below. "You trust me in your house with a gun, Mr. Mosca?"

"I trust a woman who values honor over money," Raffaele replied softly, walking over to stand beside her at the window. "Volkov has built an empire on betrayal. He buys people, uses them, and discards them. You and I are different, Jisoo. We belong to an older world."

Jisoo turned her head to look at him. In the faint silver moonlight pouring through the glass, his sharp jaw, dark eyes, and powerful stature gave him an aura of absolute, unyielding authority. But beneath the dangerous reputation of a Mafia Don, she saw a man who carried the heavy weight of a deep, lingering grief.

"Tell me about your brother," Jisoo said quietly.

Raffaele’s expression hardened slightly, his dark eyes gazing out into the dark trees. "His name was Leo. He was twenty-two. He wasn't involved in our family business—he was an architect. Volkov wanted control of our shipping terminals in Illinois. When I refused to sell, Volkov’s men planted a device under Leo’s car."

He paused, his chest rising with a slow, heavy breath.

"I swore on my mother's grave that I would dismantle every asset Volkov owned before I cut his throat," Raffaele said, his voice dropping into an icy whisper. "For four years, he has hidden behind corrupt politicians and private mercenary armies. But now... he came to my city."

Jisoo reached out, her slim fingers gently brushing against Raffaele’s sleeve—a rare, unguarded gesture of empathy from a woman who had shut down her emotions years ago.

"We will find him, Raffaele," Jisoo whispered firmly. "And together, we will close his account."

Raffaele looked down at her hand on his coat, then up into her striking, fierce eyes. For the first time in four years, the cold darkness inside his chest felt a fraction lighter.
