Chapter 4 - The Harbor GalaThe Grand Ballroom of the Waterfront Plaza was a glittering display of dark wealth, high fashion, and underlying hostility.

Over two hundred figures from the city’s upper crest and underground elite milled about the marble floor under massive crystal chandeliers. Guard details stood at every exit, their dark suits concealing tactical weaponry.
At the center of the room stood Renzo Vance—a broad, barrel-chested man in his late fifties with silver hair, a thick mustache, and eyes as cold and cruel as iron rivets. He was surrounded by three senior syndicate directors, sipping vintage scotch and laughing boisterously.
"Kazuo is hiding in his mansion like a frightened dog!" Renzo boasted loudly, gesturing with his glass. "He lets a little neighborhood girl embarrass him on the internet! The boy has no stomach for blood! Tomorrow, we vote him out!"
The heavy oak doors of the ballroom swung open.
The room fell instantly silent.
Kazuo Vance walked into the ballroom. He was dressed in a tailored double-breasted black tuxedo that fit his broad shoulders impeccably, his dark hair slicked back, his posture radiating undisputed, lethal dominance.
Arm in arm with him was Nora Chen.
She looked utterly breathtaking. She wore an off-the-shoulder gown of deep midnight-blue silk that clung gracefully to her curves, her dark hair swept up in an elegant arrangement secured by diamond pins Kazuo had presented to her that afternoon. Her skin glowed under the chandelier lights, her posture regal and steady despite the fierce pounding of her heart.
Walking proudly at Kazuo’s left side, wearing a formal black leather collar with a polished silver plate, was Taro. The massive black dog trotted with calm, imposing dignity, ignoring the gasps of the surrounding crowd.
Renzo Vance’s smile vanished instantly. His face flushed a dark, angry purple as he stared at the trio.
"What is the meaning of this insolence?!" Renzo barked, stepping forward, his heavy boots echoing against the marble. "Kazuo! You bring a civilian woman and a beast into a private council summit?!"
Kazuo stopped ten feet from his uncle, his expression an impenetrable mask of cool superiority.
"I bring my partner, Renzo," Kazuo’s voice carried effortlessly across the silent ballroom. "And I bring my brother’s legacy."
"Partner?!" Renzo sneered, pointing a thick finger at Nora. "She is a cheap nurse who humiliated you! The whole city is laughing at you because of her!"
Nora took a single, confident step forward, releasing Kazuo's arm. She looked Renzo straight in his bloodshot eyes without a single trace of fear.
"No one is laughing, Mr. Vance," Nora said, her voice clear, melodious, and carrying absolute authority. "The viral video has garnered over twelve million views worldwide. And as of eight o'clock tonight, that attention has been redirected to the launch of the Kenji Vance Memorial Healthcare Foundation—a fifty-million-dollar charitable initiative funded by Kazuo Vance to provide free emergency medical care to working families across the city."
A sharp gasp went through the crowd of board members!
Several senior directors immediately pulled out their phones, scanning the breaking news alerts that were already flooding the city's financial news feeds.
"The public perception of the Vance Logistics Group has never been higher," Nora continued smoothly, stepping back to Kazuo's side. "The stock value of your legitimate maritime holdings rose six percent at the after-hours closing bell. Kazuo didn't lose control of a civilian, Mr. Vance. He turned a neighborhood interaction into the single greatest public relations victory this company has seen in twenty years."
The senior directors surrounding Renzo began whispering frantically among themselves, looking at Kazuo with newfound respect and admiration.
Renzo was shaking with rage, his hands clenching into fists. "You arrogant little bitch! You think a pretty dress and a news article protects you from how this family operates?!"
Renzo reached inside his jacket—
SNAP.
Taro stepped in front of Nora, letting out a deep, chest-throbbing growl that shook the floorboards!
At the same instant, Kazuo moved with terrifying speed. He stepped between Renzo and Nora, grabbing Renzo’s wrist before his hand could clear his lapel, squeezing with enough crushing force to make the older man groan in pain!
"Touch her, or draw a weapon in her presence," Kazuo whispered into Renzo’s ear, his voice so cold it froze the blood in the older man's veins, "and I will bury you in the harbor before the night is over."
Kazuo released Renzo’s wrist, stepping back casually.
"The board vote is canceled, Renzo," Kazuo announced, looking around at the assembled directors. "Unless anyone else feels my leadership is lacking?"
Silence filled the ballroom. Not a single director raised a voice. One by one, the senior board members bowed their heads slightly in respect to the undisputed Don of the Vance family.
Renzo glared at Kazuo, then at Nora, realizing he had been completely defeated. He turned on his heel and stormed out of the ballroom, flanked by his two remaining bodyguards.
Kazuo turned to Nora. The lethal predator vanished, replaced by a gaze of deep, unadulterated devotion.

"You were extraordinary," Kazuo whispered, reaching out to gently take her hand.
Nora let out a long, shaky breath, a small smile breaking across her lips. "I told you... I don't like bullies. Now take me home, Kazuo. My feet are killing me."
