Chapter 5 - The Shadow's Retaliation
The fallout from the incident wasn't just viral; it was political. Madison, desperate and disgraced, had gone to the one person who hated Gabriel more than anyone: Marcus Thorne, a rival shipping magnate.
Thorne saw an opportunity. He didn't care about Madison, but he cared about the video. He realized that the "cold, untouchable" Gabriel Moretti had a soft, beating heart. A weakness.
Two days later, while Gabriel was at his office, the threat materialized. It wasn't a bomb; it was a leak. Thorne released a doctored version of the video, claiming that Gabriel had used his influence to illegally strong-arm a private citizen, attempting to frame the mafia boss for corruption.
The news cycle turned. Protesters gathered outside the Moretti holding offices. Claire became the target of anonymous threats.
Gabriel came home to find his house surrounded by private security. He walked into the living room to find Claire sitting with the priest from their wedding, talking quietly.
"They're coming for us, aren't they?" Claire asked.

"Don't," Claire said, standing up. She looked him in the eye. "Don't fight them with their weapons. Fight them with truth. If you go to war, you lose the life we built. If you show them who you really are, you win."
