Chapter 2 - The Echoes of the AccidentI didn't leave the mansion that night. I needed more. I retreated to the guest wing, using my tablet to access the private server I had spent the afternoon hacking. The records were sparse, but they were damning.

I found the accident report from twenty-eight years ago. It hadn't been a car crash. It was a staged incident involving an insurance fraud scheme that had gone wrong, resulting in the "disappearance" of Lillian. But the report wasn't signed by my father. It was signed by a man I knew well: Judge Elias Thorne, the man who had overseen my father’s estate and served as my legal guardian after my father’s "natural" death ten years ago.

The corruption ran deeper than just family. It was a network.

I looked at the dates on the financial transfers to the nursing home. They were scheduled to cease in three months. That was the deadline. If Lillian survived until the end of the fiscal year, she would be officially transferred to a state-run facility where she would be entirely unprotected—and likely disposed of.

I had three months to destroy the entire network.
