He came to me with a briefcase. "Adrian, I can make this go away. I have the files that show Margaret acted alone. If you sign this statement, I can protect your inheritance, and we can quietly resolve the situation with your mother."
I stared at him. He wasn't trying to help me; he was trying to save his own career. He was the one who had been managing the payments to the nursing home for the past decade.
"You were the one feeding them information on my investigation," I said, my voice cold.

I didn't answer. I reached into my pocket and hit the button on my phone. The room filled with the sound of his own voice confessing to everything, recorded during our meeting. The police, who were waiting in the hallway, burst in.
