PART 4 – THE TRUTH THEY TRIED TO BURY
Elena stared at the file in silence.
"What exactly are you saying?" she asked.
Mara opened the folder and slid several documents across the table.
"During your pregnancy, someone changed your medical records. Your blood pressure warnings were removed, and your emergency appointments were canceled without your knowledge."
Elena felt her hands tremble.
"My doctor never mentioned this."
"Because he never saw the altered files. They were changed through the hospital's online system."
"And who did it?"
Mara took a slow breath.
"We're still investigating."
The next morning, Vale Global's legal team met with hospital administrators.
Within hours, security footage revealed a familiar face.
Vivian Harrow.
She had visited the hospital several weeks before Elena gave birth, claiming she was handling "family paperwork."
The administrator looked horrified.
"She should never have been given access."
"But someone inside helped her," Mara replied.
An internal investigation began immediately.
Meanwhile, Daniel sat alone in his apartment.
His company laptop had been disabled.
His access card no longer worked.
For the first time in years, he realized how completely his life depended on the company he no longer controlled.
His phone rang.
It was Chloe.
"Daniel... Mom is in trouble."
"What happened?"
"The police came to the house this morning asking questions about Elena's hospital records."
Daniel's heart sank.
"What did Mom do?"
"I don't know... but she's terrified."
Later that afternoon, Vivian arrived at Vale Global demanding another meeting.
This time, Elena agreed.
Vivian entered the office with her usual arrogance, but it faded when she saw the evidence spread across the conference table.
"What is all this?"
Elena looked directly at her.
"You visited my hospital before I gave birth."
Vivian hesitated.
"I... I was checking on my grandchildren."
"You also signed documents using my name."
Vivian's face tightened.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
Mara placed a surveillance photo on the table.
It clearly showed Vivian entering the medical records office.
The room fell silent.
"You wanted control," Elena said quietly.
"But changing my medical records put my babies' lives at risk."
Vivian's confidence finally cracked.
"I never wanted anyone to die."
"No," Elena replied.
"You only cared whether I survived."
Security escorted Vivian out as detectives waited in the lobby.
She looked back once, but Elena never moved.
That evening, Daniel requested one final meeting with Elena.
She agreed—but only in the company boardroom.
When he entered, she was already waiting.
"I came to apologize," he said.
"I know it won't change anything."
Elena remained silent.
"I loved you once."
She looked at him calmly.
"I believe you did."
"So how did we end up here?"
"You stopped seeing me as your partner."
She paused.
"You started seeing me as someone your mother could control."
Daniel lowered his eyes.
"I failed you."
"You failed our children."
Those words hurt more than anything else she had said.
"I'll accept whatever happens."
Elena nodded.
"The divorce papers will be delivered tomorrow."
Daniel closed his eyes.
"I understand."
As he walked away, he realized he had lost the only person who had ever truly loved him.
The following morning, the police arrested the hospital employee who had accepted money to alter Elena's medical records.
During questioning, he confessed.
"It was Mrs. Vivian Harrow," he admitted.
"She paid me to make sure Elena missed important appointments."
The detective frowned.
"Did she say why?"
He nodded.
"She said if Elena became weak enough... Daniel would leave her."
The confession was recorded.
The case against Vivian was complete.
That night, Elena rocked Rose and Leo to sleep.
Mara entered with a smile.
"It's over."
Elena looked at her.
"Not yet."
"What else is left?"
Elena kissed both babies gently.
"My children deserve peace."
