He nodded.

Daniel looked at the children.

Several months later, Vivian stood before a parole board.
Her sentence had forced her to confront the consequences of her actions.
She requested one meeting with Elena.
Out of respect for her own peace—not for Vivian's sake—Elena agreed.
The meeting was brief.

"I'm sorry."
Elena looked at her calmly.
"I've forgiven you."
Vivian's eyes widened.

"It shouldn't," Vivian whispered.
