Chapter 1 - The Tide Turns at SeaThe Miami sun beat down mercilessly on the teak deck of The Sovereign, turning the polished wood into a scorching grill. Grant Mercer stood by the helm, sweating profusely in his custom linen shirt, staring down at his smartphone screen in utter disbelief.

For the fifth time in the last ten minutes, the digital reader flashed a cold, unyielding message: DECLINED - CONTACT ISSUER.
"Grant, seriously, what is taking room service so long?" Mandy whined, lounging on the plush sunpad near the stern with a designer towel draped over her hips. She slipped down her oversized Gucci sunglasses, her lips puckered in irritation. "We’ve been anchored out here for over an hour, the champagne is completely gone, and I am starving. You promised me private chef service and bottomless Dom Pérignon, not a floating desert island."
"It’s a glitch, Mandy. Just a temporary bank glitch," Grant lied, forcing a strained, confident smile that didn't reach his terrified gray eyes.
Inside, his stomach was violently twisting. He wasn't just any passenger on a yacht; he was the man who liked to portray himself as a self-made titan of industry. But the bitter, hidden truth—known only to his accountants and his fiercely successful wife, Evelyn—was that Grant hadn't made a dime of his own in over a decade. Every suit he wore, every watch on his wrist, and every drop of fuel in The Sovereign’s massive twin engines was funded entirely by Evelyn Mercer’s venture capital empire.
And right now, Evelyn had just cut off the life support of his entire lifestyle.
His phone buzzed violently in his palm. He gasped, hoping it was the notification that the freeze had been lifted. Instead, it was an automated text from American Express: Your emergency auxiliary card has been permanently disabled. Contact primary account holder.
"Damn it! Damn it all to hell!" Grant slammed his fist against the mahogany helm, making the compass rattle in its housing.
Mandy sat up, alarmed by the sudden outburst. "Hey! Watch the temper, G. What do you mean 'damn it'? Call Evelyn or your assistant or whoever pays the bills! Fix it!"
"I can't just call Evelyn," Grant snapped, pacing across the deck.
He couldn't tell Mandy that while he had been playing billionaire playboy with his mistress in Biscayne Bay, his twelve-year-old daughter, Lily, had nearly died from a catastrophic peanut allergy reaction in the kitchen of their Greenwich mansion. He didn't even know yet if Lily was alive or dead. The last call he had made to the house went straight to voicemail, and when he tried calling Rosa, the housekeeper, her phone had been switched off.
Right then, the yacht’s twin Detroit Diesel engines—which had been idling smoothly in the tropical heat—sputtered, choked, and died completely.
The abrupt silence over the water was deafening. The air conditioning units hummed down to a pathetic click, and within seconds, the interior of the luxury cabin began to trap the heavy, suffocating humidity of the Florida afternoon.
"Grant! What just happened?!" Mandy shrieked, jumping off the sunpad as the deck lights flickered and went black. "Why is it getting so hot in here? Why did the AC stop?!"
"The fuel pumps," Grant whispered, his voice trembling as he looked at the dead digital dashboards on the bridge. "The harbor master... Evelyn must have shut down the fuel lines and automated systems from her phone."
"Well, start the auxiliary generator!" Mandy demanded, marching up to the helm. "Call someone! Call a towing company!"
Grant pulled up his contacts list, his hands shaking so violently he dropped the phone onto the deck. Ninety-nine missed calls from his own frantic thumb-dialing mocked him from the notification banner. He had texted Evelyn twenty times—pleading, demanding, threatening—and received only stony, terrifying silence in return.
And then, a new notification slid down his screen. It wasn't from Evelyn. It was from the harbor master at Bayside Marina:
Mr. Mercer, per direct written instructions from Mrs. Evelyn Mercer, sole owner of vessel registration #99482-S, all docking rights, fueling privileges, and port services for The Sovereign are suspended indefinitely. Do not attempt to re-enter port without her direct legal clearance.

Grant stared at the glowing screen as the reality of his situation washed over him like a tidal wave.
They were stranded three miles off the coast of Miami, drifting slowly on the outgoing tide. No food. No fresh water. No air conditioning. No fuel. And worst of all, he was trapped on a multi-million-dollar prison cell with a demanding mistress who was about to realize that her sugar daddy was suddenly completely, utterly broke.
