Chapter 3 - Mutiny on the BayOn board The Sovereign, the sun began its slow, bruised descent toward the horizon, painting the Miami sky in violent shades of orange and bruised purple.

The heat inside the yacht’s main salon was unbearable. The mahogany paneling seemed to radiate the day's trapped solar energy like an oven.

"I can't take this anymore! I am suffocating!" Mandy shrieked, slamming her fist against the glass patio door leading to the rear deck. Her hair was matted with sweat, her designer bikini top sticking uncomfortably to her skin, and her mascara had run down her cheeks in dark, smudged streaks. "Grant, fix this right now or I swear to God I am jumping overboard and swimming to shore!"

"Swim three miles in open shark-infested water if you're feeling ambitious, Mandy, but don't take it out on me!" Grant roared back, losing whatever fragile composure he had left.

He was pacing the length of the salon, his shirt unbuttoned to the navel, his hair plastered to his forehead. The sheer humiliation of his situation was eating him alive. He had tried calling his so-called 'friends'—wealthy yacht brokers, hedge fund managers, and socialites in Miami—asking for a wire transfer or a boat to come pick them up. Every single one of them had either ignored his calls or given cold, evasive excuses once they realized Grant Mercer was cut off from the family fortune.

Word travels fast in elite circles. Within two hours, everyone from Brickell to Palm Beach knew that Evelyn Mercer had put her husband on financial lockdown.

"You said you were a billionaire!" Mandy screamed, her voice cracking with hysterical rage. She grabbed a crystal decorative ashtray from the coffee table and hurled it across the room, shattering a decorative vase against the bulkhead. "You said you owned this yacht! You said I would never have to worry about a damn thing!"

"I do own it!" Grant lied desperately, his face flushing crimson. "It’s... it’s a temporary security freeze by our corporate auditors! It happens with high-net-worth estate planning! As soon as the banks open tomorrow morning, everything will be back to normal!"

"You're lying!" Mandy sobbed, sinking down onto the leather sofa and burying her face in her hands. "You're broke. You're completely, pathetically broke, and you used me as a prop for your fake lifestyle!"

Grant stood frozen, unable to defend himself. The brutal truth of her words sliced through his inflated ego like a scalpel. Without Evelyn, he was nothing. A hollow shell of a man living on borrowed money and stolen prestige.

Suddenly, a deep, mechanical roar echoed across the water.

Grant whipped his head toward the salon window. Cutting through the darkening waves, a black Miami Marine Patrol Zodiac boat was speeding directly toward The Sovereign, its blue and white lights flashing silently against the twilight.

Grant’s heart leaped into his throat. Rescue. Finally, someone was coming to pull them out of this nightmare.

He scrambled onto the rear deck, waving his arms frantically in the air. "Hey! Over here! We need help! We're stranded!"

The Zodiac slowed its engines, cutting a wide, elegant arc before bumping gently against the stern platform of the yacht. Two uniformed marine officers stepped up onto the deck, their expressions severe and unsmiling.

"Grant Mercer?" the lead officer asked, flashing a digital badge.

"Yes! Thank God!" Grant stammered, rushing forward. "Look, there's been a massive administrative error with my bank cards, and—"

"Mr. Mercer, you are not being rescued," the officer interrupted coldly, cutting him off. "We have received a formal, legally binding writ of trespass and maritime abandonment filed by counsel for Mrs. Evelyn Mercer."

Grant stumbled back as if struck. "Writ of what? This is my boat! My name is on the registry—"

"Your name is listed as a secondary permitted user on a trust controlled entirely by Mercer Holdings LLC, of which Mrs. Mercer is the sole managing director," the officer corrected him, pulling a laminated document from his tactical vest. "Furthermore, maritime authorities have flagged this vessel for abandonment in a commercial shipping lane. You and your guest have thirty minutes to pack your personal belongings and board this patrol boat. You will be escorted to the municipal dock at Bayside. Beyond that point, you are barred from approaching or boarding this vessel permanently."

Mandy, who had walked out onto the deck behind Grant, let out a piercing shriek of horror.

"Bayside dock? In front of everyone?!" she cried, her face contorted with disgust. "You expect me to walk off a luxury yacht onto a public pier looking like this, with no car, no money, and no dignity?!"

May you like

"Ma'am, you can either walk onto this boat voluntarily, or we can assist you in handcuffs for maritime trespassing," the officer said flatly, resting his hand on his duty belt.

Grant stared at the flashing lights of the patrol boat, realizing with chilling finality that his empire of sand had finally, completely collapsed.
