Chapter 2 - The Five-Minute CollapseTrue to his word, Jonathan Ellison did not waste a single second.

As the second hand on the antique clock swept past the three-minute mark, the heavy oak front doors of the mansion shuddered under a series of violent, synchronized alerts vibrating from Adrian’s personal and corporate cell phones.
Adrian chuckled dismissively, taking a sip of scotch. “Probably a margin call on a minor supply contract. Nothing my executive team can’t handle.”
Vanessa walked over, wrapping her arms around his neck. “Don’t let her intimidate you, Adrian. She’s just throwing a pathetic tantrum because she got caught.”
Claire sat in the armchair across from them, her expression completely devoid of emotion as she watched the panic begin to brew.
At four minutes and ten seconds, Adrian’s corporate phone began ringing incessantly. He glanced down at the screen, frowning as he saw the name of his chief financial officer flashing urgently. He swiped to answer, pressing the phone to his ear.
“Harrison, what is it? I’m busy—”
“Mr. Mercer!” Harrison’s voice came through the speaker, frantic and trembling with terror. “We are locked out! All primary corporate bank accounts associated with Mercer Dynamics have just been frozen by federal mandate!”
Adrian’s color instantly drained. “Frozen? By who? That’s impossible! We have government backing and multi-million-dollar liquidity!”
“I don’t know who authorized it!” Harrison shouted over background noise of clattering keyboards and shouting employees. “Every credit line has been instantly revoked, our overseas holdings are blocked, and the New York Stock Exchange just halted trading on our stock pending a federal fraud investigation!”
“That’s absurd!” Adrian roared, standing up so fast his crystal glass shattered on the hardwood floor. “Call our legal team! Call the board of directors!”
“The board has already called an emergency vote, sir,” Harrison whispered, his voice hollow. “They’re voting to strip you of your CEO title effective immediately. Someone—we don’t know who—just dumped billions of dollars in short positions against us, and simultaneously submitted a comprehensive dossier of tax evasion and public contract manipulation directly to the Department of Justice.”
Adrian slowly lowered the phone, his hands shaking violently. He stared at Claire as if seeing a ghost for the very first time.
At exactly five minutes, the front gates of the estate buzzed open. A fleet of sleek, black federal vehicles and private security units poured up the circular driveway, surrounding the mansion in a silent, suffocating perimeter.
“Who... who are you?” Adrian stammered, taking a step backward as he looked at Claire. “What did you do?”
Claire stood up slowly, smoothing her skirt. She looked at Vanessa, who was now trembling so violently she had dropped the edge of Claire’s silk robe.
“You wanted to know who I am, Adrian?” Claire’s voice echoed coldly through the study. “My name isn’t just Claire Hart. My father is Jonathan Ellison—the primary majority shareholder of the very venture capital firms that funded Mercer Dynamics into existence. Every single asset you own, every brick of this mansion, and every contract you hold exists solely because my father allowed it as a wedding gift.”

She walked toward the study doors, pausing just long enough to look over her shoulder.
“And within five minutes, he proved that he can take it all back just as easily.”
