Chapter 3 - The Eviction and the ExposureHeavy knocks echoed against the grand mahogany doors of the study before they were pushed open by federal marshals accompanied by a senior legal representative from Ellison Global Enterprises.

“Adrian Mercer?” the lead agent demanded, holding a stack of court-ordered asset seizure warrants.

Adrian stumbled backward, his back hitting the bookshelf. “This is a mistake! My lawyers will—!”

“Your lawyers have already resigned, Mr. Mercer,” the legal representative interrupted coldly, stepping into the room. “Furthermore, forensic audits conducted over the last four minutes have revealed that the forged documents used to implicate Mrs. Mercer in corporate espionage were uploaded from a secondary IP address registered directly to Ms. Vanessa Vale.”

Vanessa gasped, her face turning pale as chalk. “That’s a lie! I didn’t—!”

“We have the server logs, Ms. Vale,” the agent countered smoothly, snapping handcuffs onto her wrists with practiced efficiency. “You are also being detained for corporate conspiracy, wire fraud, and tampering with federal securities.”

As Vanessa was dragged sobbing toward the foyer, screaming Adrian’s name for help, Adrian collapsed onto his knees on the very spot where Claire had knelt under his cruelty only minutes earlier. The tables had turned with terrifying, poetic symmetry.

“Claire,” Adrian choked out, crawling desperately toward the hem of her dress. “Please. I was angry. Vanessa manipulated me! You know how my mind works when I’m stressed about the company. We can fix this. We’re husband and wife.”

Claire looked down at the man who had raised a belt against her, her eyes completely devoid of pity.

“You made your choice when you believed a parasite over your own wife, Adrian,” she said softly. “You wanted a woman who could ‘move forward’ at your level. So go ahead. Move forward from the bottom.”

With a swift motion, she stepped out of his reach.

The federal marshals moved in, hauling Adrian to his feet and snapping the cold steel cuffs around his wrists. He thrashed and shouted, begging for mercy as they dragged him past the shattered glass of his scotch tumbler and out the front doors into the flashing red lights of the patrol cars.

Within the span of a single hour, Adrian Mercer’s entire world had been thoroughly dismantled. The empire built on arrogance and cruelty had evaporated into dust, leaving behind only the cold reality of his own undoing.
