Chapter 4 - Rebuilding the FoundationTwo weeks after the collapse of Mercer Dynamics, the Manhattan corporate landscape was permanently altered.

The federal indictments against Adrian and Vanessa moved forward at lightning speed. The mountain of forensic evidence compiled by Ellison Global’s elite legal team left no room for bail, defense, or negotiation. Stripped of his wealth, his status, and his high-powered friends—who scattered like roaches the moment the Ellison name was officially attached to the takedown—Adrian sat in a maximum-security holding facility awaiting trial, abandoned by everyone, including Vanessa, who had immediately cut a plea deal by throwing every single one of Adrian’s illicit financial maneuvers under the bus.

Meanwhile, on the top floor of the Ellison Tower, Claire sat behind a massive glass desk overlooking the glittering expanse of New York City.

The name plate on her desk read Claire Ellison-Hart, Managing Director of Strategic Restructuring.

The door clicked open, and her father stepped inside, holding two steaming cups of coffee. Jonathan Ellison looked at his daughter with a mixture of immense pride and lingering protective fury.

“The acquisition of Summit Assets is complete,” Jonathan said gently, setting a cup on her desk and pulling up a chair. “Mercer Dynamics has been officially dissolved, its remaining patents absorbed into our portfolio, and the physical assets liquidated. There is nothing left of his empire.”

Claire took a slow sip of her coffee, the warmth grounding her. “Good. I don't want a single trace of that chapter left in our records.”

“How are you holding up, sweetheart?” Jonathan asked, his voice softening. “I know cutting ties like that... it takes a heavy toll.”

“It hurts, Dad,” Claire admitted honestly, looking out at the skyline. “Not because I miss him, but because I feel foolish for ever thinking I could shrink myself to fit his insecurities. I spent three years playing the quiet, supportive wife, pretending I didn't know how to run a boardroom, just to protect his fragile ego.”

“Never apologize for giving someone a chance to love you for who you are, Claire,” her father replied firmly, placing a warm hand over hers. “The mistake wasn't yours. It was his inability to recognize a queen when he had one.”

Claire smiled faintly, feeling the last remaining anchors of her past life completely dissolve away. She wasn't the broken, cornered woman kneeling on a study floor anymore. She was an Ellison, and the throne was entirely hers.
