Chapter 3 - The Destruction of the Rossi Empire

The private ground-floor lobby of St. Jude’s Hospital looked like a battleground of high-society titan authority.
Julian Rossi, a powerful shipping magnate in his late fifties with slicked-back grey hair and a custom Italian coat, stood shouting at three uniformed police officers and the hospital’s legal staff. Beside him, Isabella stood in steel handcuffs, her face red, her expensive gown rumpled, weeping hysterically.
“Do you have any idea who I am?!” Julian roared, slamming his leather-bound cane against the marble reception desk. “My family donates ten million dollars a year to the city’s law enforcement pension fund! You remove these cuffs from my daughter immediately, or I will have every single officer here stripped of his badge by morning!”
“Mr. Rossi, please calm down,” Chief of Police Henderson said, holding up a hand. “We have severe felony allegations—”
“Allegations from a nobody!” Julian spat furiously, waving his cane toward the elevators. “Khloe Thorne is an upstart orphan who married into money! My daughter is social royalty! If Khloe had an accident because she couldn't walk in heels, that is her own fault! To accuse Isabella of assault is a criminal slander!”
“Is that so, Julian?”
The icy baritone echoed across the high-ceilinged lobby.
Julian turned around fast.
Marcus Thorne stepped out of the private elevator bank, flanked by Harrison Vance and three high-ranking corporate attorneys carrying thick black leather briefcases.
Julian scoffed, stepping forward with his head held high. “Marcus! Finally, a man of sense. Look at what these incompetent fools are doing to Isabella! She’s traumatized! You need to drop these ridiculous claims right now before this ruins our upcoming joint venture in the Mediterranean docks!”
Marcus walked slowly across the lobby. He didn't stop until he was standing three inches from Julian Rossi.
Without warning, Marcus’s hand shot out like a iron vise, grabbing Julian by his lapels and slamming the older billionaire back against the thick marble pillar of the lobby with enough force to rattle the glass chandeliers above.
“Marcus!” Isabella screamed.
“You touch me again, Thorne, and I’ll ruin you!” Julian gasped, struggling against Marcus’s terrifying grip.
“You brought a viper into my house, Julian,” Marcus growled, his voice dropping into a low, terrifying vibration that made the surrounding police officers freeze in place. “Your daughter entered my wife’s private hospital suite. She shoved her into a table. She kicked her seven-month pregnant stomach while she lay bleeding on the floor. She tried to murder my daughter.”
Julian’s eyes widened slightly in shock, looking over at Isabella. “Isabella… is this true?”
“No! Papa, he’s lying! They’re making it up!” Isabella wailed.
Harrison Vance stepped forward, pulling out his tablet and holding it directly in front of Julian Rossi’s face. He pressed play.
Julian watched in horrific silence. The 4K footage showed the entire violent attack from start to finish—the audio crisp, clear, and damning. He watched his own daughter smile as she struck the helpless pregnant woman on the floor.
Julian’s face drained of color. His jaw worked silently, but no words came out.
“The original media file,” Harrison Vance said calmly, “has already been submitted to the District Attorney’s office. There is no bail judge in this state who will release her on felony attempted murder of an unborn child, aggravated battery, and pre-meditated assault.”
“Wait… wait, Harrison… Marcus…” Julian stammered, his arrogant posture dissolving into desperate panic. “We can settle this privately! We are business partners! I will pay fifty million dollars to Khloe’s charity! I will send Isabella out of the country to a convent in Europe! Just… don't release this video! Don't ruin my family’s name!”
Marcus leaned in close to Julian’s ear, his breath cold against the older man’s cheek.
“At 9:00 AM tomorrow morning,” Marcus whispered, “the global stock markets open. By 9:05 AM, Thorne Financial will short-sell every share of Rossi Shipping. By 10:00 AM, Harrison’s defense network will terminate your maritime clearance permits across thirty international ports. By noon, you will be bankrupt, Julian.”
“You… you can't do that!” Julian gasped, tears of panic finally breaking through his hard exterior. “That would ruin thousands of employees! It would destroy my father’s legacy!”
“Then you should have taught your daughter not to kick my child,” Marcus spat, throwing Julian back against the pillar before stepping away.
Marcus turned to Chief Henderson. “Take her away, Chief. If anyone attempts to grant her bail, let me know. I’ll buy the courthouse.”
“Marcus! MARCUS, PLEASE!” Isabella screamed as two female officers seized her arms, dragging her toward the heavy glass doors of the lobby, her cries echoing uselessly into the night.

Julian Rossi collapsed onto a lobby bench, his cane dropping to the floor, staring blankly at the video still playing on loop in his mind.
Marcus didn't look back. He turned toward the elevator, his heart focused entirely on returning to the quiet room where his wife and child were sleeping safely under the watchful eyes of the stars.
