Chapter 5 - The Legal Excision

The destruction of the Aurelius name was a swift, mathematical process that took less than forty-eight hours to finalize in the state probate court. With Adrian locked behind the thick steel bars of the federal detention center, his legal team dismantled, and his mistress turning state's evidence to save herself from a ten-year prison sentence, the final settlement protocol was merely an administrative execution.

Inside the prison visitation room, Adrian sat behind the heavy plexiglass partition, his face pale and sunken under the harsh fluorescent lights. On the other side sat Alistair Vance, who calmly slid a single document through the secure metal slot at the bottom of the glass.

"What is this?" Adrian rasped, his voice shaking as he looked at the document.

"It is your unconditional surrender, Mr. Aurelius," Alistair said, his voice entirely devoid of emotion. "A non-negotiable divorce decree and full termination of parental rights. You will sign this document today, giving up every single legal claim to the twins, the Vale estate, and any remaining corporate equity associated with the Apex brand."

"This is a death sentence!" Adrian screamed, his hand slamming violently against the plexiglass, making the barrier vibration hiss. "You're leaving me with absolutely nothing! I’ll spend the next ten years in a federal cell, and when I get out, I’ll be a beggar on the street!"

"You will be exactly what you attempted to make my client, Mr. Aurelius," Alistair Vance replied, closing his ledger with a sharp, definitive click. "You told her that she was acting like a dying swan. Ms. Vale simply wants to ensure you have ample time to study your own performance. You have until 5:00 PM to sign the agreement. If you refuse, the U.S. Attorney will seek the maximum twenty-five-year sentence under the RICO statute."

Adrian looked at the paper, his hand shaking so violently he could barely hold the pen provided by the guard. With a broken, pathetic sob, he pressed the nib against the document, signing away his freedom, his name, and his lineage with a few strokes of black ink. The doors were officially locked, and the true vault of his destruction was permanently sealed.
