Chapter 4 - The Truth Unveiled
The investigation was swift. Charles Whitmore was not a man who enjoyed being crossed. He pulled the security footage from the locker room corridor.
He didn't fire Vanessa. That would have caused a scandal and turned her into a martyr. Instead, he did something far more devastating.
He called an emergency meeting with the board of directors—which included Vanessa’s father.
He didn't show the footage to the board. He showed it only to Vanessa’s father in private. He showed him that his daughter had been caught on camera committing premeditated vandalism. He then handed him a document: a list of the legal damages for the destroyed property and a formal warning that if this behavior continued, the academy would pursue expulsion and legal action for harassment.
But the real blow came when Charles announced a new policy: "The Merit Initiative."
He announced that scholarships would no longer be based on private donor recommendations but on blind auditions evaluated by an independent panel of judges from outside the city. He effectively stripped the wealthy parents of their influence.
Vanessa’s father was furious, but he was trapped. He couldn't defend his daughter's actions without exposing her to public shame.
