Chapter 5 - The Blood Alliance

The ballroom descended into absolute bedlam.
Matteo Moretti instantly reached for his shoulder holster, but before his hand could clear his jacket, Dante stepped out from behind a velvet curtain near the stage. BANG! A single muffled shot from Dante’s silenced pistol caught Moretti squarely in the kneecap. Moretti screamed, collapsing onto the mahogany table, sending champagne towers crashing down around him.
Vincenzo scrambled backward, knocking his heavy chair over, screaming frantically for his personal security detail. "Kill them! Kill them both! I'll pay ten million to whoever puts a bullet in Sylvio’s head!"
Not a single guard moved.
Sylvio descended the marble staircase slowly, his hands casually tucked into his trouser pockets, his dark eyes fixed entirely on his trembling uncle. Behind him, thirty heavily armed Raldi loyalists marched into the ballroom, securing every exit with military precision. The corrupt lieutenants who had supported Vincenzo lowered their heads, backing away from the head table like frightened dogs.
"Your guards were paid off three hours ago, Vincenzo," Sylvio said, his voice terrifyingly calm as he stepped onto the main ballroom floor. "Did you really think my men would follow a traitor who traded the family's honor to Moretti?"
Vincenzo fell onto his knees beside the ruined table, clutching a linen napkin to his sweating face. "Sylvio... please! I'm your blood! I'm your father's brother! I did it for the family! She was a distraction! She was making you weak!"
Sylvio stopped three feet from his uncle. He reached down, grabbed Vincenzo by the hair, and yanked his head back, forcing the old traitor to look up at Megan, who stood beside Sylvio with absolute composure.
"You didn't do it for the family," Sylvio growled, his grip tightening until Vincenzo whimpered in pain. "You did it because you were greedy. You threatened my wife. You forced her into a life of poverty. You made her starve while you sat here drinking eighty-year-old cognac."
Sylvio pulled his custom black steel pistol from his shoulder holster and pressed the cold barrel directly against Vincenzo’s forehead.
"Sylvio, no!" Vincenzo wept hysterically, urine pooling beneath his trousers on the polished floor. "Mercy! Ask her! She's soft! She's a good girl! Megan, tell him to have mercy!"
Megan stepped forward. She looked down at the man who had terrified her, who had forced her to leave her home, who had spent four years enjoying the fruits of her suffering.
She did not flinch. She did not look away.
"You showed no mercy when you put red dots on my husband's chest, Vincenzo," Megan said, her voice hard as granite. "You get what you earned."
Vincenzo’s eyes widened in sheer horror.
BANG.
The gunshot echoed sharply off the high ceilings. Vincenzo went limp, collapsing onto the marble floor.
The entire room remained frozen in terrified silence. Nobody dared to breathe as Sylvio casually re-engaged the safety on his weapon and slipped it back into his jacket. He turned to face the assembled capos and syndicate heads of the state.
"Is there anyone else in this room," Sylvio announced, his dark eyes sweeping over the quiet crowd, "who doubts who rules this city? Is there anyone else who wishes to question the authority of my wife, Matriarch Megan Raldi?"
One by one, the oldest and most powerful capos in the state dropped to one knee.
"Long live the Don," Capo Rossi declared loudly. "Long live the Queen."
Within seconds, two hundred men in tailored suits knelt on the ballroom floor, bowing their heads in absolute submission to Sylvio and Megan.

Sylvio turned to Megan. He held out his hand to her.
Megan took it without hesitation, her fingers locking with his, her chin raised high as they stood together at the pinnacle of the empire—unbroken, victorious, and completely untouchable.
