Chapter 6 - Reclaimed Sovereignty

Six months later.

The summer sun shone brightly over the private coast of Amalfi, Italy. The Mediterranean Sea sparkled like a bed of crushed sapphires beneath a cloudless sky, crashing gently against the high cliffs below the Raldi villa.

On the grand stone terrace overlooking the water, a lavish breakfast spread was set on a white wrought-iron table: fresh croissants, ripe figs, espresso, and champagne flutes filled with mimosa.

Megan sat in a comfortable lounge chair, wearing a breezy white linen sun dress that caught the ocean breeze. Her skin had recovered its healthy, golden glow; her hair was thick and lustrous, and her eyes sparkled with a deep, vibrant peace. The frail, emaciated maid who had ridden the elevator at Hotel Virgini six months ago was a distant memory—a nightmare that had fully dissolved into the morning sun.

Beside her sat Sylvio, wearing an unbuttoned blue linen shirt and trousers, looking relaxed, tanned, and deeply content.

In his hands, he held a thick leather portfolio containing the legal deeds to the Collins Foundation—a fifty-million-dollar charitable trust that Megan had personally established to build shelters, provide job training, and guarantee legal protection for exploited hospitality workers across North America.

"The expansion in Chicago is fully approved," Sylvio said, handing her a pen with a warm, indulgent smile. "Your foundation just acquired three former hotel properties to convert into permanent housing."

Megan took the pen, signing her name—Megan Raldi—with a firm, elegant stroke. "Good. No woman should ever have to sleep on a cold floor because a landlord thinks he owns her."

Sylvio set the documents aside. He leaned over, pulling her onto his lap. Megan let out a soft laugh, wrapping her arms around his neck as he buried his face in her hair, breathing in her sweet scent of jasmine and ocean air.

"Do you know what today is?" Sylvio murmured against her neck, his lips kissing the soft skin beneath her ear.

"Of course I do," Megan smiled, running her fingers through his dark, thick hair. "It's the four-year anniversary of the day we were supposed to be divorced."

"And instead," Sylvio whispered, pulling a small velvet box from his pocket, "it is the day we renew our vows in front of everyone who matters."

He opened the box. Inside sat a new ring—a massive, flawless canary diamond set in platinum, crafted to replace the simple wedding band she had left behind four years ago.

"I promised to protect you four years ago, and I failed," Sylvio said, his dark eyes gazing into hers with an intensity that made her heart race just as fast as it had on the night they first met. "I promise you today, Megan... on my life, on my soul, on every drop of blood in my veins: no shadow will ever touch you again. You are my heart. You are my sovereign."

Tears of pure, unadulterated happiness gathered in Megan's eyes, sparkling under the Italian sun. She reached out, sliding the ring onto her finger, where it caught the light brilliantly.

"You didn't fail me, Sylvio," she whispered softly, leaning in until their lips were inches apart. "You came and found me in the dark. You brought me home."

He kissed her then—a deep, slow, passionate kiss that tasted of sweet wine, ocean spray, and an everlasting future.

Outside the villa, guards patrolled the perimeter, and the syndicate ran with terrifying efficiency under the firm hand of Dante and the loyal capos. But inside the gates, surrounded by the warmth of the sun and the endless expanse of the sea, the Don and his Queen sat together in absolute peace—forever safe, forever united, and forever sovereign.
