The financial trails left behind on Renata’s encrypted drive provided the exact evidence needed to dismantle Victor Vance’s entire network of shell companies and corrupt municipal officials.
Inside the Long Island estate, the atmosphere transformed entirely.
The heavy, fearful tension that had defined the staff for decades under Renata’s tyrannical management evaporated. Without the constant threat of arbitrary dismissal or psychological intimidation, the household ran with a smooth, natural efficiency.
On a bright Saturday morning, Mia sat on the expansive lawn behind the red maple tree where Adrian had first found her. She was feeding pieces of crust to Rex, who accepted them with surprising gentleness, while Adrian watched from the stone terrace with a cup of black coffee.
Elena walked out onto the terrace, carrying a fresh stack of logistical reports.
"The final audit for the east wing renovation is complete, sir," Elena said, handing him the folder.
Adrian took it, his fingers brushing hers for a fraction of a second. "Thank you, Elena. But it's Saturday. You don't need to call me 'sir' when we're off the clock."
